A Geography Project for 6th Graders!

Οι τομείς ήταν: 1) Country and Borders, 2) Landscape-Landforms and Landmarks, 3) Weather, 4) Problems, 5) People, 6) Writer?s opinion.

 Enjoy!!!

Australia

My name is Peter and I come from Australia. Australia borders with Indonesia in the north, with the Southern Frozen Ocean in the south, with the Indian Ocean in the west and with New Zealand in the east.

It?s a huge island. It has got high mountain ranges but not very big forests. Rivers flow across the country. The lakes fill when it rains. A famous landmark is the Sydney Opera House.

The weather is very hot in the summer and it is sometimes very cold in winter. The temperature drops at -5°C.

Australia is a very beautiful country but it also has problems. One of them is that it is very far away and people can?t visit other places easily. Furthermore, it has lots of immigrants because there are many jobs and they can live a better life. So the country is very crowded and overpopulated.

The people of Australia are of British origin. They speak English but they follow a different Christian dogma. They like surfing, hunting, fishing and collecting fruit.

I think it?s exciting to live in Australia because I like kangaroos and the people are very friendly!

Great Britain

My name is Kathrin and I come from Britain. In 1809, Great Britain was united with the Kingdom of Ireland to synthesize the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. In 1922, the Irish Free State seceded from the United Kingdom; the latter being officially renamed the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Much of England is flat or low-lying. Mountains are found in the north. The Cheviot Hills, the Pennines and the Cambrians are England?s mountains. The highest point in England, the Scafell Pike, is part of the Cambrian Mountains. The Downs are a series of rolling chalk cliffs. The longest and best known river in Britain is the Thames. Other rivers include the Ouse, the Severn, the Trent, the Tweed and the Wye. London?s attractions are: a) the Big Ben, b) the Houses of Parliament, c) the London Eye, d) Trafalgar Square, e) the Buckingham Palace and f) the Tower of London.

London has a temperate climate, like most of the British Islands. The summers are cool with an average maximum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a mean lower of 14 degrees Celsius. It rains almost every day. Several times it snows, too.

Britain is a wonderful country; however, it has got many problems with natural disasters such as storms, floods, tornadoes and avalanches (snowdrifts).

The British people are very polite. They believe in Christianity but also in Judaism and Protestantism. There is no single British language though English is by far the main language spoken by British citizens.

In my opinion, it?s a great country to visit although it rains most of the year. There are a lot of sights to see! I enjoy living here!

USA

Hello! I?m Kristie and I come from the USA. It?s a large country between Canada in the north and Mexico in the south. It?s, also, a mountainous country with large plains, long rivers such as the Mississippi River and deep lakes such as the Lake Michigan. The Rocky Mountains are high mountain ranges in the west. There are a lot of sights to see. You can visit the volcano in Yellowstone National Park, the Niagara Falls, the Statue of Liberty, the White House or the Capitol Building in Washington.

The weather is hot in the summer and very cold in winter. The temperature in winter drops below zero. Natural disasters are a main problem. In the last 10 years, there have been a lot of disasters such as snowstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes and wild fires.

The people are very friendly and humanitarian. It?s a multicultural society. My opinion is that the USA is a very beautiful country to live in. I love the USA and I never want to leave it when I grow up!
